Legal Question in Business Law in Illinois
Can I stop this slander?
I worked for an entertainment facility here in Illinois, I was terminated because I was accused of stealing a large amount of money. I did not do this, and the police did not press charges after an investigation. This occured almost 2 years ago. I am being slandered on a daily basis by the person who took my position, and she is telling customers and anyone else who will listen that I was fired for stealing X amount of dollars. It has caused me to not be able to find employment on several occasions as the people interviewing me were my former customers. How can I get this to stop, and how do I do it?

Re: Can I stop this slander?
You could file suit for defamation, assuming that you have proof that she has been making these false factual statements about you and, in truth, you did not steal. Injunctive relief is also potentially available.
