Legal Question in Business Law in Illinois

I am a talent manager for an R&B singer. My client and I are both college students at an art and communication institutions. Within our college - there is a film program. We hired a few film stuents to shoot a music video. The director hired a lighting guy in her film class. He took it upon himself to hire someone to help him with the lighting. Now since the video is complete we are going to compensate all of the production team. They made an invoice asking for a little over $1,000. We can't afford to give them that - so they have threatened to get a lawyer involved. What do I do?

As a Franchise Attorney I can say this. Most threats are idle threats. It's not credible to assume attorneys who charge $300 or more per hour for their time will take a case for $1,000 - unless they're given a big retainer - which probably won't happen. Wait and see if they pay to get a lawyer and then go from there. Consult with a good business or franchise attorney in your area for specific advice.
