Legal Question in Business Law in Illinois
My wife and I leased a comm location to operate a resale shop and was not able to make enough profit to maintain lease payments. Landlord locked us out of business and said all assets of ours will not be returned until full restitution is made. our assets is the only method we have left to try and repay lease agreement. Can he keep our items? We have not recieved any notification other than verbal that he's keeping our assets. Thank you,

Get a lawyer. Based on the facts the landlord appears to have committed what's called a forcible entry & detainer that is not allowed in Illinois. Unless your lease contains a right to distrain for rent. And if you don't know what that means, again you need a lawyer. Good luck.
