Legal Question in Business Law in Illinois

At- Will Employee Termination

I was fired for taking a phone from the lost and found bin at my store and giving it to another employee. Our rule at the store was anything past 30 days is up for grabs for the employees. during termination loss prevention and gm ask me to document what i did and the conversation we had. They told me that there is a log book with all the items that was found. I have worked there for 4 years and was never told about that nor was it written in the handbook. I was never written up and i have never completed my training as supervisor. I was unaware that the phone was not pass 30 days due to lack of managers' communication. Do i Have a case to sue? considering im a at-will employee and it states no where in the handbook that lost items are considered store property?

Re: At- Will Employee Termination

It would take additional information about the facts of your case and some legal research to give a more definitive answer. It may be a wrongful termination matter. It could even be a discrimination case depending on the facts.

Please feel free to contact me to discuss further.
