Legal Question in Business Law in Illinois
I worked for a small business for 21 years, the owner passed away and new owners took possession in September 2009. I was recently laid off due to the economy and I had earned my vacation days from last year to use this year. I had 4 weeks vacation and 5 days sick coming to me again to use for this year. Do I have any legal rights to ask for severence pay for the 4 weeks vacation and 5 sick days, since the business that purchased us also bought the name of the company? How do I approach the owners?

In Illinois accrued vacation pay must be paid at time of termination. You have a right to such pay from the successor employer. You should seek a local attorney to contact the employer to remind the employer of Illinois statutory law on accrued vacation pay.
