Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Illinois

About 6 months ago I attended a student organization event and photos were taken. Recently I found out that a photo that was taken at that event was used to make a 2x2 banner with the university logo, academic department, and degrees available through the program. Furthermore a brochure was made, using that same photo, that discusses program/degree requirements, application process, and contact info. The department (not university) designed and paid for the copies and banner. They never asked for and I never gave written or verbal consent for the use of the photo- in what I would consider advertising/promotion. Do you believe my rights to privacy or publicity were violated? Because it sure feels like it. Thanks.

You may want to check the fine print of your application for admission to the university. While normally permission is sought from attendees who are photographed, if you gave permission for your likeness to be used in promotional material of the school you can't insist that the school "cease and desist".
