Ability of a company to restrict or limit acess
My company has announced a new non-smoking policy at the workplace, which is within its rights to do. They are threatining us with ''progressive corrective action'' if we were to violate this policy. The policy is a good one and they are offering help to quit smoking, but what rankles me is the following handout that I recieved in my mail box at work. It reads ''Smoking is strictly prohibited throught Advocate's Campus and its offsite campus locations. This includes, adjacent sidewalks to Advocate owned facilities, nearby businesses, parking lots and private residential yards.'' there are nurmous business that are frequented by employees for lunch/dinner which have no such policy covering their property ie. parking lot. Is this legal for them to prohibit the employees and other public from practicing something, while regulated by certian laws, is not ilegal on public land

Hello. Your company has no right to regulate
smoking beyond its private property. Any public
ordinance concerning smoking can be set by the
particular city or villege, but not by your com-
