Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Illinois

canidate

Thanks for your time, I have been told by the Property Manager of Public Housing that I may not run for election or be on the ballot, due to the Housing office doesnt think very highly of me , I have no criminal record or anyother type of records agaisnt me..The position that I would like to run for is Secretary of the Residential Council here in the housing residents where I live. To my understanding if one is not liked by the office then one has a hard time doing anything relating to tentancy. I am well liked by the residents and would have probably been voted in, due to my competature having a criminal record. Can they deny me this right to be a canidate?? Thanks Again

Re: canidate

Unless you previously agreed to certain rules regarding running for positions, such as in your lease agreement, then it sounds like you are not being given accurate information. Please consider consulting directly with an attorney.

Re: canidate

Your right to run for the office you desire, is probably governed by the association agreement you executed upon taking up residence there. Read it carefully.
