Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Illinois
cross referencing a phone number to gain access to another person
I recieved a call from a person who claimed she could not get ahold of my next door neighbor. She gave me her name and number and asked me to pass the message along since she said this person's line was being checked for service. She would give no other info. Since I thought this was important I called my neighbor, line was working just fine. It was then I realized that I had been tricked. I told the neighbor what happened and then called back the number the lady gave me. I asked her how she got my number, she said she crossed referenced it at the library and if I did not want to give the info to the neighbor that was just fine and hung up. Is this legal? The lady said it was.
