Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Illinois

Former Employer Suing for ''Defamatory'' Internet Posts

I have just received a noticed that I am being sued by my former employer for posting my opinions on a Yahoo investment message board. They allege that the posts have violated a confidentiality agreement I signed (though I can find no relevance to that) and that I have given away information that was not public. They are seeking damages and to use me as an 'example.'

What can I do? I can't afford an atty. They want 50k. What laws govern this? Can I counter sue? The pres. of company is a jerk and a bully and he's taken it to a whole new level now. Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

Hello. You need legal representation; a lawyer.

I suggests that you look at your budget and determine where there is "financial fat". In other words, budget in money for a lawyer to

defend you in this lawsuit. Depending upon the

facts of the case and the legal issues, you may

be able to file a counter-suit, but this is no

easy task. Trying to represent yourself can be

more "financially" draining than having to pay

a lawyer. Certainly there is much more of an

emotional drain with traumatic side effects for

those who attempt to protect their interest by

themselves. I will be happy to answer any

additional questions that you might have.
