employment question
can my current job fire me for having a second job?

Illinois is an "at will" state. So yes, your employer can fire you for pretty much any reason other than discrimination or sexual harassment. Exceptions would be if you have a written contract that provides otherwise or if you are in a union that has a collective bargaining agreement that provides otherwise.
