Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Illinois
Where to File Claim?
Hi, I want to file for a legal separation, perhaps divorce later. Currently my abusive spouse lives in Effingham and that is my last permanent address before I lived with various friends and relatives since then. Meanwhile, I am in a rehabilitation program in Waukegan for substance abuse and will likely be there 6 months, possibly a year. I would like to file for separation and/or divorce so I can see my kids. Where would I have to file? In Waukegan or Effingham?

Re: Where to File Claim?
Hello. If you have been in Waukegan for less than 6 months, I suggests that you file your petition for legal
separation in Effingham.
