Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Illinois
what can i do if my son is being bullied by teachers?
1 Answer from Attorneys
Schools are institutions, with chains of command. Generally you need to try to talk to the teachers directly first, and if you are not satisfied then go up the ladder. There should be a pupil services person who may be a vice principal who might be the next step. Most likely if you go to the principal first they will ask if you have spoken to the teachers, and if you haven't they will ask you to do so. If the administration (including principals) are already aware of the situation and you are not satisfied, you would have to go beyond the school itself to the superintendent's office. And so forth. There are attorneys who deal with these matters and you should consider one if possible; once you start up the administrative ladder you could be affecting your due process rights without knowing it.
