Student Discrimination

My son was recently stopped in school during lunch and 'told' to open his mouth by a teacher. She discovered his tongue piercing (which is against school rules) and he was issued a Saturday detention. At least 50% of the students have piercings that are against the 'rules' yet they are worn everyday.I talked to the principal and mentioned a cheerleaded that wears a nose piercing to school everyday and told her that my son would serve his detention on the same day the cheeleader does. She got mad and hung up on me! The cheerleader had her piercing in yesterday at school. Is this discrimination?

In this country laws, rules and regulations must be applied evenly and fairly to the entire class they purport to affect, or they may be violative of due process. The law does not permit favoritism, or selective enforcement. They apply the same to all, or there are constitutional problems with their limited application.
