Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Illinois
Unauthorized Video Taping
My neighbors recently installed video cameras on the back of their house and garage. They are positioned so that they record all activity only at my house. I have a 12 year old daughter that I am afraid is being videotaped. We cannot walk out our front door without being on camera. I would like to know if this is legal since they are specifically targeting my family and if there is any action I can take. I feel that my privacy is being invaded and that my daughter is being subjected to offensive leering by my neighbors, especially since we have a pool and she is often in a swimsuit. Thank you for you help.

Re: Unauthorized Video Taping
Since I practice in the field of civil rights, I find your question quite interesting. While I usually respond to questions in this forum in a general way w/out the need to conduct independent legal research, I have asked someone in my office to take a quick look at the issue -- out of my own curiousity, if for no other reason.
I will re-respond to this question once I have a little more information. Or, if you prefer, you may email me directly at the below listed email address.
