Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Illinois
about a year and a half ago, the restaurant i work in was robbed at gunpoint. it was an inside job put together by the managers son, he was a server there. all of the perpatrators have since been caught. the manager still has her job and is able to hire new people. i still have nightmares and think about it constantly. my restaurant owners have gone down the list of who was there that night and has steadily made their lives at work a living hell until they get too fed up with it and quit. this has happened to 4 people, now they are working on me. i am not allowed to pick up extra shifts, and im rarely seated while working. my owner goes out of her way to be mean to me. i just wanted to know if there was any legal way to get her to leave me alone. i just really wanna know my rights as it pertains to this, and if theres anything i can do to either sue her or make her let me do my job in peace. thanks.

In Illinois employees not working under an employment contract are deemed to be "at will." At-will employees may be terminated for any reason, so long as it's not illegal. There are numerous illegal reasons for termination. Typically such reasons fall into one of two large categories: illegal discrimination or illegal termination in violation of a public policy.
You are an at will employee. You may want to look for another job. You do not want to be working at a place where the owners do not like you.
