Legal Question in Constitutional Law in Illinois
I am 17. I have a lot of problems with my parents at home. A few times a month my dad will hit me when our arguments get heated. Things get so bad sometimes that I can't even go to school or my job. I was wondering how I can get him to stop because its starting to get really bad. I have people that have noticed how bad things are. There have been bruises and scars from him. Can I get emancipated? How would that work and how long would it take? The only thing I would worry about if I did get emancipated is how I would come up with money for college and insurance..etc.

Various people are what are called "mandatory reporters" when it comes to child abuse. Those include among others: teachers, doctors, police officers, social service workers, etc. So you have many people out there who would report suspected abuse that could be investigated and that could result in your being taken under protection. Protection can mean removal from your home into foster care until you are 18. Emancipation normally requires you to show you could live on your own without parental support; starting to talk about emancipation might stir things up even more. I suggest that in light of the abuse you claim to be receiving, you seriously consider going to an emergency room or a teacher at your earliest chance. Even if you are placed in foster care, there are scholarships potentially available if you are a good student.
