Legal Question in Constitutional Law in Illinois
Cigarette Fines
Ill. legislation has passed a law fining someone up to $25K and confiscate their vehicle for purchasing more than 10 packs of cigarettes from another state. Is it Constitutional to fine someone for purchasing cigarettes for personal use in another state? Since they do not fine people for purchasing liquor, clothes, gas, etc. I know that there are Il residents that spend thousands in Missouri at Christmas, yet they do not get fined. I believe that it is not only unconstitutional, but discrimatory to penalize those of us that do smoke.

If you have a citation for the statute, please provide it to me, and I'll take a look at it.
