Legal Question in Constitutional Law in Illinois
Law
I was told by a Police Detective that it is legal for law enforcement to lie to people to get information and to lie to someone to get them to come in and give an interview. He told me that it is the law. I would like to know where to find this law that says it is legal for law enforcement personnel to lie and misrepresent the facts in order to get information from people and to get people to come in to get an interview from them?

Re: Law
we are not familiar with any "specific" codes or laws that expressly state that "it is ok for police officer to lie...", but we can say it is perfectly legal for them to do so, even though they CANNOT produce false evidence to be used against you. however, for them to lie in order to get a confession or lead is permissible constitutionally, especially since alot of the suspects they deal with are less than cooperative to begin with. hope this helps.
