Legal Question in Construction Law in Illinois
I live in Belleville, IL St. Clair County
On our street they are doing road construction
It is shaking our foundation
What can I do if it causes cracks in our foundation

1. DO NOT WAIT to inform the city that you are feeling vibrations in your home. Do it now by phone AND in WRITING. The city may send someone out to see what is going on BEFORE there is a problem. You can also feel free to find the job supervisor and let him/her know! Also, contact your HO insurance agent and let him/her know what is going on. Sometimes they will come out too because the last thing they need is a claim.
2. Take some pictures now before there is any damage. If your house DOES sustain damage, take pictures of the damage. Call the city immediately! Contact your HO agent! Your recourse would most likely be against the city, and the city would then charge it back to the contractor. But that is a potentially long, complicated and uncertain process, pending resolution of which you MAY have to spend your own money (or your HO insurer's money if you're covered) . You very well may need an attorney.
