Legal Question in Construction Law in Illinois
mechanical lien
a few months after I paid off the contractor for a porch project I received a letter from the subcontractor's attorney demanding for $4000 that the contractor owes them. I was not aware of the subcontractor until I received the notice regarding the lien. I contractor agreed to hire his attorney to help getting this lien remove but it has been 5 months now without any resolution. What should I do to get the lien off my property?

Re: mechanical lien
Hello. In my opinion you will have to file a lawsuit against the contractor. He is responsible for the lien against your property. Hopefully, you had a contract with the contractor to better substantiate your rights in this regard, but you should take swift and decisive action here so that you will preserve your legal rights. Will be happy to discuss this topic further and in more detail.
