Our accounts have been frozen due to a judgement from american express for 15,000. The judgement is against my husband they froze an account which our carpenters pension check is direct deposited in Illinois.Should we stop the direct deposit the other account has his payroll checks direct deposited as a bus driver.I am not on the judgement as his wife can I open a new checking account elsewhere? He has a court date on 10/25/2013.What can we do?

You can put the pension income into another account, but until the judgment is satisfied AMEX can attach any and all accounts, so then you'll have two frozen. If you are in a retirement situation and living on the pension, it may NOT be too late to work a deal with AMEX to settle the balance out if you can. What can you do? Get an attorney involved to help manage this situation, since you obviously lost that chance when the judgment was entered, unless there is a way to reopen it, which an attorney can evaluate only after looking at the court file and talking to you......
