Legal Question in Consumer Law in Illinois
Breaking a Contract
My fiance and I chose a wedding hall reception and put an inital deposit of $3000. Recently my fiance lost his job, due to a union strike, and my parent's are in the beginning stages of going through a nasty divorce. And because of this, we aren't going to be getting the money to help with the wedding like we thought we would. We are no longer able to afford this. Is there any way of going around this contract while getting our deposit back? With the economy like it is, $3000 is a lot.

Re: Breaking a Contract
It would depend on the terms of the contract. Keep in mind that the $3,000, plus whatever else you were going to pay for the reception, is a lot to the wedding hall as well.
