Legal Question in Consumer Law in Illinois
I'm in a car repair nightmare
Took my car to a dealer for repair because it was dying when I slowed down to turn, ect. However, not all the time and not everytime the car was being driven
They said they found the problem, first bill was $750.00 parts and labor. I paid the bill and left. The next day, the problem was back.
The car went back to the shop, they replaced another part for an additional $250.00, but it died on them also after the part was installed. They sent me home with a computer recorder attached to the engine and said to record any events. I recorded 4 events.
Now, they are telling me that the problem was found. A sensor wire was shorting out the computer. The computer needs to be replace which will cost an additional $700.00. I don't know what to believe anymore.
My question is:
Obvious the first parts weren't necessary so do I have any recourse? Second, how can I be sure it is the computer this time? I haven't authorized the last repair because I am waiting to talk to the service manager. Just needed some advice on how to handle this situation. Thank you

Re: I'm in a car repair nightmare
Hello. I can understand your frustrations. Several years ago I owned a car that had a sudden problem
with the map sensor. I anticipated what your car problem was when I saw the word "sensor" in your posting. In my opinion, based upon your explanation, the dealer is at fault for misdiagnosing the problem with your car. The dealership should have known what the problem was and obviously was not diligent in doing its job to repair your vehicle. Legally I think you should file a lawsuit against the dealer, if they attempt to charge you anymore money. I think I would get my car out of there and get a second opinion. Furthermore you may be entitled to a refund for what you have already paid. Will be happy to discuss this issue further and in more detail.
