Legal Question in Consumer Law in Illinois

My car was in the repair shop at a local gas station. It was there for about 3 weeks and still is there. about 4 days ago my girl friend and i went to get gas at the gas station. She noticed that my head rest were gone. I ran to the car located in front of the shop where the mechanic parked it. The dvd tv head rests were gone my gps/radio/lcd was gone. And to my surprise at 930 at night the car was unlocked. No mechanic no one in sight i ran to the attendant and i called the police. The next day the mechanic called me and said there is nothing he can do and the owner said not responsible for lost, damaged or stolen items. I called my insurance and since it is after market equipment and i didnt register it with them they will only replace stop equipment. What can i do or if there is anything that can be done?

They are liable for their negligence and your insurance shouldn't have to be ding'd for it. Theirs should be. Their mechanic is not the one to talk to -- talk to the owner of the station who is carrying the insurance. It's good you made a police report out, but you should also make sure you have all the paperwork for the stuff when you bought it so you can prove what you paid for it. As to your insurance, do you have homewoner's, or renters? Your rental insurance MAY have some coverage even if the auto does not.
