Legal Question in Consumer Law in Illinois

I was at a coffee shop franchise in Chicago drinking coffee with my friend. Then two males came into the store and approached us asking for money. We firmly said no, but they kept asking for money. Eventually a store clerk came and asked them to leave. however, they took my phone when they left.

The store employees respond to the situation properly. They just gave me a paper to write an incident report, so I had to call police myself to file a report. I even heard one of the employee telling the police officer that the two males come to the store frequently to ask miney to the customers.

I called the coffee franchise corporate to see whether they have insurance for in store theft, but they said no and insisted that they are not responsible for any loss of private property inside the store.

In this case, is the coffee shop responsible (even partially) for the robbery that happened inside the store, or is the store not responsible at all as they claim?

For the loss of belongings, store is not responsible (I agree) but this is not a lost case rather a theft and it arises due to poor security system in the stores and for that they are responsible in full
