Consumer rights of signed contracts.
After signing a written contract for home improvements,what are my legal rights to void the contract and request a refund of any monies paid to the contractor?

If the documents were signed at home, you have a right to cancel within 3 days. However, if the company failed to give you the proper disclosures of this right (quite possible, they are complicated), you have until they give you the right disclosures, which could be indefinitely. Have an attorney look at the disclosures.

As the previous reply stated, in Illinois in door to door home sales you have a three day right to rescind the contract. You also have the usual common law defenses such as breach of implied and express contract, breach of implied and express warranty, not fit for particular purpose, nonworkmanlike manner, and so on. I encourage you to discuss this with an attorney to preserve your rights.
