Legal Question in Consumer Law in Illinois

A hotel mistakenly gave a room key to a stranger that was able to access the room that my 20 and 15 year old children occupied. Luckily we were gone and the stranger was a good person and left things alone and informed the desk of the mistake. Situation could have been much worse ,especially in this day and age. When I mentioned this to management at check out, all I got was an I'm sorry and blamed confusion on recent remodeling , when in actuality it was the clerk that entered the room as 209 when in fact it was 309, thus showing 309 as vacant. The clerk that afternoon was busy complaining with her co-workers about the leftover painting mess instead of concentrating on her job. Should I let this go or pursue something? I live in Illinois but hotel was in Iowa..

You certainly can complain to the manager or owner. You might get a discount on a future stay. Luckily, you did not suffer any damages. The downside of that is that without damages, a lawsuit would be useless.
