Legal Question in Consumer Law in Illinois
If lied to, are you still liable for payment
I was looking for a new dentist, I have a HMO plan. A friend told us about their dentist so I called and asked if they accepted my insurance, the receptionist said yes and that she can do the paper work .My whole family had work done when the receptionist called and said she was having problems with the insurance. Long story short they were not in the network and the insurance will not cover anything. My ? is am I still liable for the complete bill even though the receptionist told me they took my insurance? {The receptionist no longer works there]

You're probably going to have a hard time with a he said/she said argument regarding an employee who is no longer there. I would suggest contacting the doctor directly and explaining the situation. He would probably like to work things out and keep you as patients.
