Legal Question in Consumer Law in Illinois
I live in Piatt County Illinois and my husband purchased a pickup in Champaign County just shy of 4 years ago. The salesman did not subtract correctly on the contract and we overpaid by $1,000. Do we have legal recourse? Or since he signed it with the "wrong" total at the bottom, are we out the money? We were hoping to ask the dealer for the $$ back.

You should ask the dealer to correct the situation. You can sue on written contracts in Illinois for 10 years, but if you wait too long there are ways the dealer could dodge the situation by saying you waited too long and they are thus prejudiced by your delay. Try without going to court first, but instead of calling it may be best to show them the mistake -- and bring a copy with you so they don't have to take yours away from you to make a copy for themselves. Don't let the paperwork out of your sight!!! Then you can see if they're going to be reasonable or not.
