minor child
my child was caught shoplifting
at a kmart. now kmart has demanded $411.41. within 20 days or threatens a law suite.
although they hsve decided against pressing ang charges because she is a minor unless we pay. is this legal? or is a scam?

Sears/KMart is not in the practice of "scamming". Was the stolen property recovered? If not, that is why they are suing - for the recovery of their property. Wonder how they figured that amount - regular price or sales price? If it's not for recovery of stolen property, what are they suing for - administration costs?
