Legal Question in Consumer Law in Illinois

Minor purchasing non-refundable tickets

My minor daughter (16) thought she'd surprise my husband and I by purchasing Superbowl tickets. She went on-line, took my credit card and purchased tickets that she thought were Superbowl tickets. In fact, they're for the party outside the stadium. Over $6,000 later (which I can't afford at all) am I stuck with these tickets? The credit card won't take them off. Ticketmaster won't refund them.

Re: Minor purchasing non-refundable tickets

I think if you report the card as stolen -- in this case by your daughter -- you might have a limit of liability, perhaps to $50. There may be timing requirements for reporting it, however. You can prob. find out the particulars by conducting onlines searches.

Also, the contract entered into by minors are generally voidable. Here, of course, the issue is that your daughter was impersonating you.

Separately, how do you punish a kid like that? Does what is seemingly a nice thing and, whalla, you're stuck with a $6K tab. Yikes.
