Legal Question in Consumer Law in Illinois
Missing Deposit in bank
i had deposited a foreign demand draft of 1115$ on 14th of march in a local bank. the money still hasnt been credited to my account inspite of repeated complaints. i had made 3 very similar deposits earlier and 1 deposit after that deposit. during all those occassions the money was credited in less than 2 days. since i am a student i am finding it very hard to pay my fee and other expenses. getting notices from housing and the school every now and then. the bank does mention that it might take upto 6 weeks for the money to be credited. in 2 days it'll be 6 weeks since the depositing of the draft. can i claim for some kind of compensation for this irresponsible act of theirs. (am not a usa citizen, here on a student visa). please advise

Re: Missing Deposit in bank
If the bank has a policy that says it may take up to 6 weeks for the draft to clear then you have no recourse. I would however speak to a manager of the bank to find out why your other drafts cleared in 2 days and why this one has not.
