Legal Question in Consumer Law in Illinois
Paid Debt at Collection agency
I recently paid a credit card in full, the payment was processed and cleared by the issuing bank prior to any contact from a collection agency that it had been sold too.
The collection ageny is still claiming that I must pay them also.
I called the credit card company and they were not helpful either.
How to you suggest I resolve this issue.
Thanks

Re: Paid Debt at Collection agency
If you have paid the account in full then you owe nothing to the collection agency.
I assume you have a statement from the card company showing that the account is PIF and you also have your canceled check. So take those items, call the collection agency tell them you are faxing proof of the account being paid in full to them and also send them copies via regular mail. I would then inform them that any further contact by them is in violation of the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act (FDCPA).
