Legal Question in Consumer Law in Illinois
Need to rewrite a lost check?
I recently purchased a pool table and wrote a check for 1/2 down when purchased.Upon delivery of the table I was told to give the other 1/2 of the amount to the delivery person.I did as requested and made copies of both checks.Approx 1 month later the store is stating that they never recieved my second check.I faxed them copies of the checks but it seems that my second check has been lost.I am very reluctant to write them a ssecond check. It is not my responsibility because they requested that I pay the delivery person. What should I do?

Re: Need to rewrite a lost check?
Stop payment on the second check and send them the third. Ask them if they would mind if you deduct your bank's stop payment fee from the check (get it in writing!). Since it is their error, they shouldn't mind, IF they are a decent company.
