Legal Question in Consumer Law in Illinois
Transferring property without a will
My Mom died 2 years ago, without a will, she did not have any assets, enough insurance just to cover her burial...she did have a small lot of land in New Mexico, I have the Deed but it was never transferred to my sister or I, I have been paying the taxes on it, how would I go about getting it changed into my sister and mine Name, we live in Illinois, thanks

Re: Transferring property without a will
You should probably repost this question for a New Mexico attorney to review. If the property was in Illinois, if the deed was delivered to you by your Mother, all you would need to do is record the deed at the Recorder of Deed's office in the county in which the property is located.
