100% disabled vet being sued for credit card debt
After a heart attack in 2001 left me unable to work,I applied for and received SSA and VA disability benefits.Now I'm being sued by a collection agency that took over my Discover credit card.I am suppose to make a appearence om the 12th of April 2005 to file a written appearrence and pay a filing fee of $140.What exactly should I do and what is the correct/legal manner to handle this situation.Thank you for any/all help you can give.I am being sued for $4288.17.

You need to appear or have an attorney appear for you. If no one appears on your behalf, they will obtain a judgment by default against you. In light of your financial situation, you might be able to have the filing fee waived. You might also be eligible for legal assistance. I am not familiar with legal assistance providers in Chicago, but I imagine if you Google "low income legal assistance Chicago" you'll probably come up with something.
