Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

Hi, I am 72 years old and have received a Creditors Citation to appear in court on July 28, 2010. I fell and broke my hip in May and had to have surgery to insert a compression screw. I am now trying to graduate from a walker to a cane. My only income is social security $837 per month. I live in a small trailer and don't own any real estate.

I have no one to drive me to court and I can't take the train as I could not manage stairs, walking on a moving train, etc. This mean I'll have to take a cab there and back which will cost arund $90. I'll have to use my electric/gas money.

My question is should I notify my creditor's attorney and maybe send him copies of the documentation paperwork I would be bringing to court and see if he will just drop the case?

I'm still on pain medication and goting such a long way into Chicago is going to be difficult for me.

Should I write him or call him or what do I do?

Thanks,

Bonnie

It certainly would not hurt to contact the plaintiff's attorney. I would also suggest contacting the court to see if there are any arrangements which could be made. You also might try contacting a legal services organization in your area to see if they can help. You do not want to ignore the citation.
