Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois
My aunt owes me $13,500.00 and won't pay
My aunt who lives in Arkansas (I live in Illinois) borrowed $13,500.00 in 2001, supposedly to save her home from foreclosure. It was really for gambling debts, I learned later.I have letters and a paper called ''real estate note'' from her, promising to repay with 6.9 % interest. She has not repaid the money on request and I have had no answers from emails. Can I sue her for this money? Would an attorney be willing to take the case on a contingency basis? We are in financial difficulty and really need the money. Can someone please help us? Thank you.

You need to sue her.

Yes, you can sue here for this, though it is unlikely that an attorney would take it on a contingency basis. You will probably have to sue her in Arkansas. You might do some research to see what the small claims limits are for Arkansas and sue her yourself.
