Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

Blatt hasenmiller etc.. took me to court over a credit card debt from 2006 for capital one. The credit card limit was 1000.00 and they are sueing me for over 3000.00 . The question is are they aloud to charge that much over the original debt and second can you offer them to settle for less than they are sueing for?. I have to go back to court over this in October

Interest, late charges and attorneys fees add up. Of course you can offer less, but they will want it in a lump sum.
