Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

Collection payment

I work for transportation trucking company. We provide Import/export container delivery service. We provide delivery service to customer for more than 8 months with net 30 days term. however, their payment got delay and eventually stopped the payment. They owe money to other trucker and previous landlord. These are people I know. however, there may be more victims. Currently, they are running business under different name. I'm not sure they closed previous company name. However, recent check they issued were under different company check.

I visit their office at least once a week for collection. They never refuse payment. They just have different excuses. For time being, I try my best collect little at a time without upset him with limited legal knowledge. He has great amount of knowledge on legal matter.

I consult with other attorney in Chicago. They told I have little chance of collecting.

Current balance is about $30,000 just from our company. Is he protected by U.S. Law?

Re: Collection payment

I do not know what U.S. would protect him. I would consult with another attorney. If you are willing to pay the attorney directly rather than on a contingency basis, I am certain you will find someone to assist you. If they changed names to defraud creditors, you should be able to get to the assets of the new company.
