Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

Collection/Debt law

My son took out a private education loan for school on which I co-signed. Part of the proceeds of this loan were used to buy a car. He is in default on the loan and I am paying the payments. The car was titled to both he and myself as ''and'' co-owners. The car is in IL, has never been registered or licensed and is not insured. It is not being driven. It is at his father's house. I am in FL and would like to sell the car to apply the proceeds to the loan balance on which I am paying. How can I get this car from him?
