Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

Collections judgement

A judgement was placed against me I think in 2000 by the credit card company. Now a collection agency said they are collecting for there ''client''. I asked them to send proof and I was faxed a generic case file the last activity was in 2001 which says ''Citation Defendant Dismissed'' What does that mean? The case was for 2118.41 and they say I owe 3000+ but the credit card limit was 1000 and I did not go over. Can I just pay the 1000.00? do they have to send me paper work for court too be for the attempt to garnish or will the old file suffice? A different collection agency for the same credit card froze my friends assets 2 weeks ago and now i am thinking about removing my money out the bank. Please help. Thanks,
