Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

Co-Signer On Auto Loan

I Co-Signed for my son for an auto.

Recently he owed a ticket for a small town south of Chicago, and had not purchased the town sticker for the windshield. I repeatly told him to do all of the above, but as of now, he did not do this. The town has filed a Collection on me, and has also reported this collection on my Credit Report. Can they hold me responsible for a sticker and a ticket which HE is responsible for ??

Thank You.

If the vehicle is titled in your name, then yes, you are probably responsible for the ticket. In most cities, the owner of the vehicle is responsible for the wheel tax sticker. I would suggest taking it out of his inheritance or giving him a small lump of coal for Christmas. And take the car away from him. But that's just my suggestion.
