Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois
credit card debt
My spouse was served a summons for failure to make payments on credit card debt. Subsequent to filing a written appearance, he entered into a debt consolidation program. Is there any way to avoid a trial and a judgment? His failure to make timely payments was due to serious economic hardship (I am a recent graduate unable to find employment) and not his unwillingness to honor a debt. Thank you.

Re: credit card debt
Only with the agreement of the creditor. Creditors are not required to accept the terms offered by debt consolidation firms.
