Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

Debt collection

Hello. I have a judgement against me for a debt to a Payday Loan Co. (AmeriCash). I've been notified that my wages will be garnished and they will take $600 a month out of my paycheck. My court date is next Wed., 10/17. I'm going to appear in court to ask if this amount can be reduced. I will not have enough money to live on if they take that much out of my paycheck. I really cannot afford even $200 a month. I'm not sure what to do. I don't have any money to pay a lawyer and I don't know what I'm up against. Can you advise me? thank you

Re: Debt collection

The amount garnished from your paycheck is calculated based on statute. If you have a valid argument for an exemption you can bring that up at court, but there is a standard garnishment amount and the court typically does not deviate from that without a valid reason to do so.
