Can a creditor continue to charge monthly late fees on a disputed debt?

If you have disputed a debt with the debt collector within the required time, then they cannot continue to collect the debt from you.
They may continue if the provide you with verification of the debt.
If they have violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, then there are very stiff penalties and civil liability that can be sought aganist them.
