Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois
I have a debt that has been sold to a collection agency/law firm.
Can I legally contact the company with whom the debt originated and try to work out a deal?

There is certainly nothing illegal about doing so, but if the debt was actually sold, the original creditor no longer owns the debt and really has nothing to do with it any longer.
