Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois

Doctor requesting payment on a 3-year-old office visit.

I visited a doctor in April of 2000. In the past few months I have been receiving a bill stating that an audit was performed of the doctor's practice and they found I owed $75.00 for an office visit on 04/21/00 and want payment. I have received a final notice from them and they will turn me over to a collection agency if I do not pay. Are they allowed to request payment for a visit three years ago? I cannot verify myself whether this has been paid since it was so long ago.

A contractual relationship can be said to arise - a contract has a minimum of 5 years statute of limitations - so, yes, they can. You have a right to receive details of what is owed.
