Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Illinois
ex-boyfriend owes money
I put my ex boyfriends credit card debt onto my card to help him with repaying his debt as his interest was extremely high. He agreed to pay his portion of the debt. Since then, we are no longer together and he has not paid any of his debt for the past 3 months. He still has an outstanding balance of $3100 on my credit card. It was not a gift by any means. Do I have a case for small claims court or will the judge see it as a ''gift'' from me?

Re: ex-boyfriend owes money
You know when a gift becomes a loan? When the relationship is over. Sorry, couldn't resist. You could sue him in small claims, and it would be a matter of "your word against his." If you can show that he had been making payments on it, that should be sufficient proof that there was not intent to provide a gift.
